PM Concerned about AUKUS Partnership

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is concerned about the emergence of AUKUS while the ASEAN region faces a myriad of geopolitical issues.

On the morning of June 5, 2023, the PM stated that ASEAN is facing geopolitical competition and that AUCKUS goes against the ASEAN region’s nuclear-free agreement.

The Trilateral AUKUS Partnership is a deal between Australia, the UK and the United States to build the capacity of nuclear-powered submarines between the three. The agreement has provoked a backlash from China, which has increased tension in the region.
